The Universal
Yes, the future’s been sold
Every night we’re gone
And to karaoke songs
How we like to sing along
Though the words are wrong
This is the next century
Where the universal’s free
You can find it anywhere
Yes, the future has been sold
Every night we’re gone
And to karaoke songs
How we like to sing a long
Although the words are wrong
It really, really, really could happenThe Universal: Blur
tbqh, i wasn’t ever really a huge fan of this song. i thought it was a bit too over-the-top and dramatic and pristine and vague (“it really really really could happen”? what’s the “it” that he’s referring to?). but then, honestly, the summer gigs just changed my opinion of this song completely and totally. even though it’s a weirdly cynical song because of its vision of the future as being this horrible place, where all you need is something to escape from it, the summer made this song just something else entirely. it just sounded so hopeful and beautiful, because damon was singing about the band and oh god, it was so lovely. and this version from southend reduced me to tears.
lol damn, i could seriously spout on about blur forever. ilu band, even though you have forsaken us.
we are forsaken. :’(
